Highland whisky

highland whisky map
By far the largest producing region. The Highland region stretches from the North of Glasgow all the way to the northernmost tip of the east coast and beyond. It incorporates probably the widest range of styles of malt whisky. As a result, it is difficult to make sweeping statements. It is helpful to categorise Highland single malts into four subregions; To the North there are full bodied single malts, rich and sweet in character, such as the Dalmore whiskies.
The lighter and fruity whiskies are found to the south, such as Aberfeldy, and similar drams with a touch more body are found to the East, such as Glendronach. The Western Highlands offer full body with a peaty punch, and the coast has an influence on those whiskies.
