Nikka was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru and, following a string of victories against leading Scotch distilleries in blind tastings, it has established itself as one of the leading single malt whisky distilleries in the world. With two distilleries in Hokkaido and Sendai, they distill a variety of whisky styles, from heavily peated malts to grain whiskies with fresh and exotic fruit notes.
We will taste five whiskies starting with the cask strength Nikka from the Barrel and then exploring Nikka’s versatility with three contrasting expressions from the Pure Malt range. We will finish with an extraordinary Japanese grain whisky distilled in a coffey still – a rich and fruity whisky with notes of ripe melon, honey and citrus.
